The works involved the demolition of existing stairs, handrails and finishes, followed by the construction of a new reinforced concrete access ramp, upgraded stairway, stainless steel handrails, tactile indicators, compliant stair nosings and new floor finishes. The project also included painting, finishing works and the seamless integration of the new infrastructure within the existing court environment.
A key challenge of the project was completing the works within a highly secure, operational public facility. Careful planning and stakeholder coordination ensured construction activities were delivered safely while protecting public access and maintaining court operations. Dedicated hoarding systems, secure work zones, clear wayfinding signage and protected pedestrian pathways were implemented throughout the construction period to separate the works from public areas.
Working closely with Honeywell, the Victorian County Court and project stakeholders, we successfully managed site access, security requirements, noise, dust control and logistics in a live environment. Comprehensive safety planning, environmental controls and daily coordination enabled the project to be completed efficiently while minimising disruption to court staff, visitors and building operations.
The completed project delivered a modern, compliant and accessible pathway that enhances inclusion, safety and user experience within one of Victoria’s most significant public buildings.
